Daniel Johns joins The Veronicas
When we last heard new music from Daniel Johns he was on stage with Silverchair testing out new material that was harshly dismissed as sounding like “daft punk fucking optimus prime”. Within weeks of those shows the band had announced that they were breaking up to use their euphemism going into “indefinite hibernation”.
We’re still waiting for the inevitable solo Daniel Johns album, but we’ll be hearing new material from the ex-Silverchair frontman in June or July this year when the new The Veronicas album is released.
“We did some writing with him,” Jess Origliasso explains in a recent online chat from the recording studio where she and her sister Lisa are working on the follow-up to 2007’s Hook Me Up. “We co-wrote a couple of tracks that are going to be on this record with him and it was the greatest experience; it was out of this world really. I can’t wait for you guys to hear those tracks; they’re really, really cool.” Jess also says that “there is some artist collaboration on this record, it’s not necessarily singing – more writing and creating as well as a couple of other things… can we talk about that?… We have guest appearances…”
According to the pop duo and their producers, the songs that Daniel Johns has written for The Veronicas are “amazing”.
