Creed guitarist on Soundwave one day; off the next

Just one day after joining the bill for Soundwave 2013, Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti has decided he’s not playing the festival after all.

The news was announced this afternoon on Twitter by festival boss AJ Maddah, who initially claimed that “after months of harassment by Tremonti and his people to get on SW he has decided there’s more money elsewhere”. That Tweet has now been removed, with a more diplomatic “he has something better to do at [the] time” offered up instead. Writing on Twitter, Tremonti said the invitation “came too late” and they had already booked another tour.

Tremonti was one of two acts added yesterday to Soundwave’s 70-plus band bill, along with Canadian pop punk crew Living With Lions. Named “Guitarist of the Year” for three consecutive years by Guitar World magazine, Tremonti released his debut solo album, All I Was, in July.

Other acts confirmed for Soundwave 2013 include Metallica, Linkin Park, Blink 182, A Perfect Circle, Paramore, Garbage and Slayer. One act who won’t be appearing at Soundwave 2013 is New York-based deathcore crew Dr.Acula, who recently announced they were breaking up after eight years.

Soundwave will take place in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in March. All dates have sold out.
