Cold War Kids on Splendour 2013: “We’re announcing that sometime soon”

As this year’s Splendour in the Grass line-up announcement draws closer, the rumour mill is in full swing. Following news yesterday that James Blake would be playing the festival, FL can now confirm another hotly tipped act: Cold War Kids.

Rumours began swirling about a potential Splendour appearance after the Californian indie-rock act told triple j presenter Zan Rowe that they’d be in the country sometime in the middle of the year. And now that’s been confirmed by Cold War Kids frontman Nathan Willett in an interview with FL today. Here’s an excerpt:

In an interview you did with triple j presenter Zan Rowe at South by Southwest last week, you said you’d be in Australia sometime in the middle of the year – will that be for Splendour again?

Yeah, I think we’re announcing that sometime soon.

Do you know if you’ll be playing any headline shows as well?

I think so.

Cold War Kids are due to release their fourth studio album Dear Miss Lonelyhearts on April 2 through Downtown Records. Willett told FL the band “were shaken up” by the introduction of new guitarist Dann Gallucci (of Modest Mouse fame), whose presence allowed them “to let certain songs go further than before by trying new styles and arrangements”. Full interview to be published soon.

Other acts rumoured for Splendour include Deap Vally, Wavves, recent visitors Of Monsters and Men, Polyphonic Spree, Bob Dylan and OutKast rapper Big Boi.
