Children Collide’s Johnny Mackay is Fascinator
Children Collide frontman Johnny Mackay has unvelied his new psychedelic project, Fascinator.
Mackay relocated to New York last year, where he had a close brush with Hurricane Sandy, “indulged in the NYC lifestyle” and kept himself busy with Fascinator.
Mackay debuted his side-band on YouTube with the song ‘Sexuality Mystery’ in October last year, releasing the five track EP Birth on Bandcamp soon after. However, Mackay initially kept his involvement in the project hidden behind the stage name Lord Fascinator and Dune Rat’s members Danny Beusa and BC Deusa – who appeared in the video – simply referred to Fascinator as “some sick dude we met in New York” in their Facebook post about the clip.
Now, with the release of the second Fascinator video ‘Mr Caterpillar’, Johnny Mackay has revealed all. The new video was directed and edited by the Children Collide frontman, who also features in the clip alongside Australian models Bridget Malcolm and Rose Smith dressed as dancing hamburgers and tacos. In addition to ‘Sexuality Mystery’ and ‘Mr Caterpillar’ the Facinator EP also features the songs ‘Summer Dream’, ‘Loung Livin’ and ‘Fire Sermon’.
Children Collide had a turbulent 2012 with drummer Ryan Caesar dramatically quitting the band just weeks before a national tour and the launch of their third album Monument. Caesar had played with the band since early 2007 and is the fourth drummer to man the kit for Children Collide since the group’s inception in 2004. He went on to focus on his new group Pearls and was replaced by Mitch McGregor from four-piece indie rock group Dardanelles.
