Call the police and the fireman: Something For Kate and Tim Rogers have stolen ‘Uptown Funk’

Something For Kate aren’t exactly a funk band but that didn’t stop them from taking a shot at covering Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ with a little help from Tim Rogers on the weekend.

The unlikely cover was part of the ‘Something for John’ shows at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, which raised money for multi-instrumentalist John Hedigan who was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year and is currently undergoing therapy. Hedigan has toured as a member of Something For Kate, and played with frontman Paul Dempsey on his solo tours. Other performers at the ‘Something for John’ shows included Clare Bowditch, Adlita, Missy Higgins and Darren Middleton from Powderfinger. In addition to the Tim Rogers version of ‘Uptown Funk’, Adalita covered Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ and Clare Bowditch and Paul Dempsey performed a duet of ‘Up Where We Belong’.

Tim Rogers will continue to show off his funk chops next month with the release of a collaborative record recorded with The Bamboos. Rogers and the Bamboos will tour the album with dates in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in June and July – check out the dates here.
