Brisbane Festival live music highlights
Brisbane Festival is fast becoming one of the cultural highlights of the year. Running from 3-24 September, Brisbane Festival sees Brisbane become an entertainment hub, filled with theatre, dance, music, and of course the famous Riverfire.
Musical highlights on the program for 2011 include Frente, Ed Kuepper, Gareth Liddiard, Lior, and the quintessential Bris-band Custard, making another comeback appearance that is not to be missed.
The Spiegeltent is also back, taking up residence once again in King George Square to host a variety of music and entertainment events.
The Frankly! It’s A Pop Festival, at the Powerhouse Theatre on Saturday 10 September, will feature the burgeoning Los Angeles hypnagogic-pop underground by showcasing the Not Not Fun label, as well as new avant pop from Japan.
It’s not all about the rock either – classical pianist Evgeny Kissin will make his Australian debut, James Morrison is bringing his big band show, and Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin has composed a symphony for Brisbane, marking one of the most eventful years in recent memory.
