Bon Iver and James Blake collaboration?

Just what are James Blake and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver cooking up?

On his Twitter this morning, Blake announced: “24th August 2011 – James Blake & Bon Iver ‘Fall Creek Boys Choir’”, which has inevitably promoted speculation that the pair are teaming up for… um, well for something.

Some digging/a quick search reveals that The Fall Creek Boys Choir have a MySpace page, which hasn’t been updated since 2008, that says that the choir is “An amateur singing group from Fall Creek, WI that gets together twice a month and rehearses, drinks 7up and Cranberry juice mixers, and sometimes records at the Cricket Gym.”

Pitchfork notes that Fall Creek is the name of the Wisconsin town where Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon owns a studio and the choir’s MySpace page links to a now defunct website at and April Base just so happens to be the name of Justin Vernon’s recording studio.

Indie music blog Brooklyn Vegan is reporting that that one of the tracks posted on the group’s MySpace page New York (ball point),” contains the same vocal lines used in Cool Knowledge from Justin’s Volcano Choir project” and that “It’s a mystery for now, though we were able to get confirmation that the date in [James Blake’s] tweet does not refer to a live show.”

So basically there’s very little info, but the news that Blake and Vernon are planning anything together is certainly enough to get us very interested in seeing what they’ll reveal next week.

Update: Here’s the song which they composed the song over email.
