Bob Dylan 50th anniversary tribute tour
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan’s debut The Basement Birds; a Seeker Lover or Keeper; and a Grate go on tour in July before heading to Splendour where they’ll be joined by “an array of surprise Splendour guests”.
Eskimo Joe’s Kav Temperley, Josh Pyke, Jebediah’s Kevin Mitchell, Holly Throsby, and Patience Hodgson will be accompanied by a six-piece band under the musical direction of Even’s Ash Naylor for a tour that promises to deliver “a night of inspiration and creation with the highest musical integrity”. And say what you will about the lineup – but at least it’s not Ke$ha, Miley Cyrus and Maroon 5.
So if you’ve struggled with Dylan’s vocals and skipped the last tour through a fear that you’d be witnessing a night of unrecognisable and mumbled versions of his classics here’s a chance to hear a few classics from his legendary back catalogue sung by some local favourites.
What cover versions are you hoping for? Surely a Kav Temperley version of Quinn the Eskimo is nearly inevitable, right?
