Big Day Out rules out Vampire Weekend sideshows

Following the announcement of Big Day Out sideshows this morning the festival has now confirmed that both Red Hot Chili Peppers and Vampire Weekend will be exclusive to the festival and won’t be playing any sideshows.

The festival’s lineup announcement back in July listed Red Hot Chili Peppers as an exclusive headlining set, but all other acts were potentially available to play sideshows. Promoter Ken West explained to FL on the day of the announcement that if any acts wanted to play sideshows they were able to, but that they should be playing intimate shows to make those shows much more special.

This morning’s long list of Big Day Out sideshows included headline dates for The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Animal Collective, Band Of Horses, Alabama Shakes, Jeff The Brotherhood, Off!, Gary Clarke Jnr, Sleigh Bells, Bloody Beetroots and Crystal Castles.

No sideshows have been announced for Foals, Against Me!, Childish Gambino, Every Time I Die, Delta Spirit or Death Grips but they haven’t been ruled out either. Watch this space.
