The best album of 2016 is from a Sydney artist (according to Brandon Flowers)

Save for their annual tradition of releasing Chrissy songs, it’s been a bit quiet on The Killers front in recent years. But that doesn’t mean the band ain’t tucking into new music from around the world – including a fairly under-the-radar release from Sydney.

Proving he has an ear to the ground that picks up rumblings from across hemispheres, The Killers’ lead singer Brandon Flowers has just used the band’s Twitter to name Alex Cameron’s Jumping The Shark as the album of 2016.

Building reputations as musicians’ musicians, Alex Cameron and his saxophonist/business associate have continually earned impressive support slots across Australia, the US and Europe in the past three years. Could we see Alex warming up stadiums for The Killers sometime in the future?

While Jumping The Shark originally came out in Australia in 2014, it received a US release last year through respected imprint Secretly Canadian. Alex’s solo project is very much separate from his pursuits as part of electronica trio Seekae.

The praise from Flowers follows similar plaudits from Mac DeMarco and Angel Olsen.
