Ben Harper forms new supergroup

Ben Harper was scheduled to play the headline set on the first night of Splendour in the Grass with Relentless7, but unfortunately the band was forced to cancel the set due to a ‘serious illness’.

Harper still managed to put on a solo show at Splendour with added help from INXS’s Jon Fariss who joined Harper onstage for a set closing cover of Never Tear Us Apart.

Harper formed Relentless7 in 2008, releasing the debut White Lies for Dark Times early last year and touring Australia supporting Pearl Jam. However, that may be the last we hear of Relentless7, with Harper announcing the formation of a new group – Fistful Of Mercy.

The new band sees Harper joined by Dhani Harrison (yep, George’s son) and alt-rocker Joseph Arthur, who was first North American artist to sign to Peter Gabriel’s Real World label in the mid-’90s.

Fistful Of Mercy’s MySpace page is so new that the biography section only offers test Latin-fill text, but apparently the band will release an album on 5th October and plans to tour soon after.
