APRA award winners
The Temper Trap’s summer anthem Sweet Disposition, written by Dougy Mandagi and Lorenzo Sillitto, has won the APRA for Song of the Year.
The APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) awards were presented last night at a gala event at the Sydney Convention Centre, hosted by Jonathon Biggins and Julia Zemiro.
The well established songwriters Nick Littlemore and Luke Steele snagged the award for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year for their work, with Jonathan Sloan, as Empire of the Sun. While Eskimo Joe took out the first ever award for Rock Work of the Year with the song Foreign Land.
During the evening several acts performed covers of the songs nominated for Song of the Year, with Urthboy covering Katie Miller-Heidke’s Last Day on Earth with assistance from Cloud Control’s Heidi Lenffer and a gasmask clad DJ; and Operator Please struggling to reach the highs of Sweet Disposition.
Art Vs Science delivered a carbon copy of Empire of the Sun’s We Are the People; Katie Noonan tackled Troy Cassar-Daley’s Big Big Love; and The Basement Birds harmonised on Sarah Blasko’s All I Want.
Jimmy Little, the recipient of the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music, closed the evening by performing a cover of The Church’s classic Under the Milky Way.
