AJ Maddah on Blink-182’s Travis Barker: “He thinks he is a fucking gangster”

UPDATE: 22/2/13” Travis Barker and AJ Maddah have buried the hatchet, with Barker putting the feud down to a “HUGE lack of communication”.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Blink 182’s Travis Barker and festival promoter AJ Maddah have become embroiled in a Twitter fight about the drummer’s last minute decision not to join the band in Australia to play Soundwave Festival.

The war of words was triggered by a statement Barker made on Instagram earlier today in which he defended his no-show, saying: “If they would’ve scheduled Australia around a boat schedule I would’ve made it … They also didn’t schedule enough time to get from gig to gig without flying, so in a way I was forced not to go.”

Maddah responded to Barker’s accusations with a series of tweets in which he revealed that not only was the band paid a reported $5-million for their services but the drummer “insisted on being paid in full” for his no-show. Maddah went on to label Barker an “extortionist” and claim that Barker had “threatened to legally stop the other guys from coming unless he got 1/3 of fee.” He also reiterated that the festival had accommodated Barker’s needs by organising a bus to drive him from show to show.

Barker has since responded to Maddah on Twitter, labeling the promoter’s version of events “all bullshit” and claiming that he is just “fabricating shit.” At the time of publishing Barker was trying to reach Maddah by phone without luck: “Pick up your phone AJ. You’ve got a reputation to uphold. You lying? Dodging me? Had so much to say thru twitter 30 min ago”. Stay tuned for updates.

Blink-182 played their first Australian show – with Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman sitting in for Barker – in Sydney on Wednesday night. Read FL’s review of the show here.
