AC/DC and Midnight Oil release compilations in November

November is going to be a good time to pick up a Christmas present for your dad.

AC/DC are releasing Live at River Plate on November 16, a 19-track document of their Black Ice World Tour recorded at the River Plate Arena in Buenos Aires. Over three sold-out nights almost 200,000 Argentinians turned up to the venue to rock out to ‘Thunderstruck’, ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ and all the rest of their hits.

It’s being billed as the first AC/DC live album to be released in 20 years, although the Bonfire box set they put out in 1997 did contain three discs of live recordings. Live at River Plate was also released on DVD last year.

The band’s singer, Brian Johnson, has suggested that they’re only likely to squeeze in one more new album and world tour before retirement.

Meanwhile, Midnight Oil are releasing a best-of with the inspired title of Essential Oils on November 2. It clocks in at 36 songs, which is twice as many as their 1997 compilation, 20,000 Watt R.S.L. The songs were chosen by the band and placed in chronological order, beginning with ‘Run By Night’ from their self-titled debut in 1978 and ending with ‘Luritja Way’ from their 2002 release Capricornia.

Essential Oils comes as a two-disc set featuring remastered audio, with liner notes written by David Fricke from Rolling Stone.

So there’s your Christmas shopping for Dad all sorted out. If you really love your old man, FL recommends throwing in either a Bunnings voucher or a bottle of scotch as well.

You’re welcome.
